charismatic megafauna

Last week, we loved dolphin spotting; this week, we are enjoying daily encounters with our new seal friends, who like to haul out on the rocks adjacent to the beach where we take our morning walk.

These are harbour seals, or common seals.

But to us new coastal dwellers they do not seem common seals at all . . .

. . . but more like uncommon seals, exciting seals, novel seals . . .

After just a short time in their company the distinctive characters of these uncommon seals start to emerge . . .

. . . you begin to recognise them as individuals, noting their different markings and behaviours . . .

. . . scrappy and sedate, ungainly and elegant, sleek and rotund . . .

. . .lolling and basking . . .

. . . hopping up and plopping off . . .

. . .enjoying the morning sunshine.

Will the sight of these charismatic megafauna ever feel routine or common?

I very much doubt it!

Hope you, like my seal friends, have been enjoying some morning sunshine!

. . .and have a lovely Tuesday!
